There are other schools after the "Realschule", too, but this depends on in which part of Western-Germany you live. You should know that the Federal Republic of Germany (West-Germany) is splitted in so-called "Bundeslaender". The "Bundeslaender" are little parts of the land, and in every "Bundesland" the school-system is a little bit different. Every "Bundesland" has a special minister for schools and culture, and this means every "Bundesland" has the right to choose the school-system it wants. And this is why it is not very easy to move from a school in Bayern to a school in Berlin. You do not always learn the same at the same time. Some school-systems are easier than others, and the most difficult are the ones in Bayern and Baden-Wuerttemberg. The 3rd way is the "Gymnasium", and this is the hardest way. It takes 9 years, and the last 2 or 3 years are getting very hard. You have the right to choose from some subjects you want to learn in the last 2 years. But you can't choose all the subjects you want. You have to do some subjects, and you can choose between some others you want. You are also able to choose so called "LK's" and "GK's", which means a high level course and a normal level course. The number of this courses depends on which kind of "Gymnasium" you are. There are for example: Economic-, Mathematic-, Language- "Gymnasiums", where you can learn very different subjects. If you finnished the "Gymnasium" you have the "Abitur", which means you are able to study on a University. (There are different kinds of Universities, too, but this depends on the part of the land you live in.) So this is a long and hard way, and you can see that the German pupils have one of the most hard school-systems in the world. There is something more to say about the marks you get in Germany. The marks range from 1 to 6, 1 is the best and 6 the most worst mark you can get. In the last 2 years of the "Gymnasium" you get points, up to 15, and 15 points mean the mark 1.
