IBM - Pohea Or Serious? (2)

(continues from previous article)

Also it would be impossible to load all commands whenever the three magic buttons are pushed on the Amiga keyboard. It is very hard to say which computer, IBM or Amiga, is best on this point of view when we keep everything in mind... But still there is a difference: some commands on IBM like unerase, unformat a disk or a harddisk, ... don't exist on Amiga... Also there is the difference in the time in which the command is executed. Asking a directory of the files on an Amiga disk takes a resonnable time, but on IBM it appears shortly after giving the right command. This is of course something that happens because the commands on IBM are loaded resident and on Amiga, first the command has to be loaded and then it can be executed... Therefor, about the commands, I would say the IBM is the better one...

- Prices ??: The comparing of the prices between IBM and Amiga is a big job. Not only because there are over 1000 different IBM's, and there's only one Commodore Amiga but also because the prices of an Amiga stays resonnably stable and those of an IBM are downing very fast. Maybe it is because the Amiga is better and therefor more sold then IBM's that the prices are downing? But anyway, now you can buy an IBM for about 500$ (monitor included) and an Amiga for about 550$ (without monitor). An Amiga monitor costs about 250$ over here, in Belgium that is. The problem with buying an IBM is that it is hard to choose a computer from which you know it's good and which isn't too costy...

Disadvantages of IBM - Advantages of Amiga

- Sound: In an IBM-pack there is a lmost never forseen that you want to make better music then just go beep-beep-beep. And if you don't want to go beep-beep from all the beep-beep that comes out of your IBM, you have to buy an additional sound-card!! Having in mind that such a piece of toy costs another 300$, you start to thing why they didn't do like the Amiga builders: just put a chip from a hi-tech Synthesizer like a Yamaha 200 in it!! But no, an IBM isn't a piece of show; an IBM is serious (hahaha)!! So, I'd say there is a lttle, a big or let's say a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE between IBM and AMIGA!! For those of you who didn't yet understand it; I repeat: AMIGA-SOUND is HEAVEN's SOUND!!
