Splash

By Adok/Hugi

Splash was a chartsmag by the group Fascination. It was first edited by Fortune of Fascination and later by TaskMaster of Fascination. Both of them are from Finland. Four issues were released in 1995/1996. All of them can be downloaded from scene.org (400 - 900 downloads per issue) and work using DOSBox.

Splash #1

Splash #1, from October 1995, is controlled with the keyboard. The charts categories are top 15 groups, demos, intros, coders, graphicians, musicians, swappers, diskmags, musicdisks, parties and utilities. In addition, there's a combined chart (like in Parrot or Imphobia).

77 people voted. Apart from the charts there are adverts and messages. We can read in the editorial that a special "victim" was chosen and people were asked to write a lot of messages to him.

A solid issue, nothing to read but that's the concept.

Splash #2

Splash #2 was released just two months after the previous issue in December 1995 and now also features a photo gallery of individual sceners. Now the smooth scrolling inside the articles works. The charts are based on 91 votes. In addition to the regular votes, also the votesheets for the Scoop diskmag have been counted, since Scoop was not released. The categories are the same as in the previous issue.

Splash #3

Splash #3 is from April 1996. There are now top 20 for groups, demos and intros, top 15 for coders, musicians, graphicians and swappers, and top 10 for diskmags, musicdisks, parties and utilities. 95 people voted. There's now also a news corner in Splash, which is even pretty big. The design is good as always.

Splash #4

The final issue of Splash was released in July 1996. 119 people have voted this time, which is a new record. The mag consists of the same sections as in the previous issue: editorial, charts, news, adverts messages, gallery and credits. In the editorial we can learn about the Splash music competition, which was not very successful in the eyes of TaskMaster as only 14 tunes were submitted. The news corner is quite big again. The design is good as always, and the music is nice, too. All in all, Splash #4 is another fine issue considering the concept of having no real articles.
