What?!

By Adok/Hugi

"What?!" was a diskmag by the Australian group "Priests of Power". Only one issue was released. It can be downloaded from scene.org (about 450 downloads so far) and works with DOSBox.

What?! #1

On starting, the message "This program requires Microsoft Windows" appeared. But that was just a joke. Of course "What?!" #1, from December 1995, was a DOS based program.

The Walker served as editor and coder. The interface was quite sophisticated and good looking, the engine even supported inline images. Too bad the font was a bit hard to read.

Content-wise, there were a report about the Australian demoscene, several party reports of Coven 1995, an interview with MZ, the history of the Australian groups Fuck The System and Xtatic, several coding tutorials (programming the timer, anti debugging, VGA registers, caching and others) and some joke articles (in the section "Under the influence").

The music was made by Pulse, Phorte and Welti (four tunes in total, Welti made two). It's pretty good.

Unfortunately some of the articles appear badly formatted, with far too many spaces inserted between the words. But all in all "What?!" #1 was a very good diskmag.
