Interview (MediasRes) of: Gaston/Fairlight

Handle:
Gaston

How did you come up with your alias ?
It's from the comic books with the same name, about this disasterous guy that basicly screws up whatever he does. So I thought "That's me"!

City / Country:
Gothenburg / Sweden

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
It was a C-64 + tape, and I bought it in 1986.

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
My first group was a small thing called "Dark Sceptre". Then we met these dudes from a group called "Horizon" and we joined them. I stayed in Horizon until we lost our originals and did a short venture in "Sprint". This group lasted for some weeks before we got pissed off and did "Hyperion". Very much the same as Horizon but with more english members. But we all knew this wasn't a good setup so we joined up with "Fairlight", who at the time were in a slumbering period. But we changed that fairly soon. After that when the Amiga started declining I did a short round in "Magical" on the consoles, but today I remain as an inactive member of FLT.

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
When I quit, turning my back the the mayhem the rest of the scene had turned into.

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
Having my name in quite a few FLT releases back then...

What would you like to be remembered for ?
Being a member of two amazing groups of people - Horizon & Fairlight

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I got fed up with scene peoples attitude, the people I liked in the scene I was good friends with outside the scene anyway. This was back in '92 and since then I still keep contact (if somtimes a bit unreguarly) with most of the people.

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
That would be not documenting what we did and keeping old stuff like demos etc.

What was your favorite
GAME(S)

C64: Pirates, Delta
Amiga: Ports of call

DEMO(S)
Amiga: Can't remember the name but it's the one with a bunch of red balls rotating in a circle and after a while they morph into small devils. For it's time it was an audio-visual feast!

PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
C64: Respect to all those people who invented the stuff about removing borders and playing around with the sprites, they showed a lot of initiative.

CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
Cracker: Ringo Starr
Group: FairLight. Then and forever...

COMPOSER(S)
Blaizer of Silents

BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
Horizon intro music by Blaizer (13KB job)

EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY)
All of them... Can't believe that I lived like that for days in a row. It was disgusting if you think back about it.

MEMORY(S)
Splatt:
"Shhhh. Don't touch the doorbell... DING-DONG... Oooops" & "So what ARE you doing??????" - "I'm playing"

Rebel:
"This place is huge, we're still not got around the house yet" & "Tony you have to give me one more, I beg you, I can't let Gaston win"

DRINK ?
Beer: Bud, Carling black label... Quite a few really...

What are you doing nowadays ?
Working in the games industry, mainly programming games.

What are you doing on your spare time?
Working on a project where I'm trying to substitute all the fluid in my body with beer. I'm not there yet but give me a couple of pints

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
Those were the days...

What is the meaning of life?
Friends...

The demo he's talking about must be that one by Kefrens, can't remember from which megademo it was though.
