Interview (MediasRes) of: JBM/Fairlight

Handle:
JBM

How did you come up with your alias ?
I started using it at highschool. Nice and short! Perfect! Might have something to do with my real name, but never came around to change it. And so be it.

City / Country:
Stockholm - Sweden

Born year:
1974

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?
I got my first computer 1985. A C64! I still have it laying around somewhere in the basement. So, boring and rainy days probably once every second year I use to plug it in and enjoy some cultmemories!

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
I had locals who were running a group called Tetragon (Laser, Qual I, Qual II, Cosmos, Antiaction) which I joined shortly after my first contact with them. All of these guys were mailswapping both c64 and amiga, and thats how I entered the 'mail' scene. Laser dropped many of his swappingpartners for me. And I got started on my brandnew bought amiga (!)

An unknown crew called Area 08 merged together with Tetragon and we had some releases. One guy from the Area 08 team (Hater) a great coder got approached by Stookie / Dual Crew to join their team. It ended up that I and the Area 08 dudes left Tetragon to join Dual Crew!

Now, after joining Dual Crew I more or less was forced to buy a modem. And so I did! I started trading like fuck. Became Nr:1 trader in Sweden 1990 together with Snuskbuske ofcause (also in Dual Crew at the time beeing) I remember getting huge phonebills but I thought it was worth it back then. So I kept on trading!

1991 REBEL of FairLight opened a BBS called Trancentral. And, was probably the fastest bbs around that time ...
However, I joined FairLight summer 1991 after recieving a phonecall from REBEL & Strider. They needed a guy i Stockholm. And, FairLight at the time beeing one of the bigger cracking groups. Well... I had to say goodbye to Dual Crew ... And thats how I ended up in the group where I am today, FairLight and proud of it!

Tetragon -) Dual Crew -) FairLight

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
To bring FairLight to the nr:1 best voted group in the world. 1993! Well, we got voted nr:1 on quite many things. Best Overall group, most legandary group etc etc.

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
Probably for beeing one heck of a trader once upon a time! But after that for beeing the FairLight amiga leader. I did get voted as the 3rd most hated even before Zelnik, but hey I was only defending my group! I know, I probably had a big attitude problem back then.. but it was damn funny with all those msg-base wars!

What would you like to be remembered for ?
One of the top dudes behind FairLight on Amiga.

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I am still active as a matter of fact. Due to lack of games comming to the AMIGA there's just not worth it anymore. PC rules, and I am just stating the facts not my personal opinion! I wouldn't mind to stay on releasing stuff on the AMIGA but hey, there's nothing to release anymore! Sure, once every third month there is a game worth cracking... so, who knows .. don't be too suprised if you do see a FairLight amiga crack, Im still here .. might get inspiration back one day ...

My current project is a FairLight CD! Including all FairLight releases ever released on Amiga and C64, soon to be finished. So make sure to grab your copy guys !!!!!

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
I probably shouldn't been so nasty in the msgsbase. Some people most likly got affended and that was really not the meaning.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)
FairLight MUST be the biggest piracy group ever! We are still alive and kicking. Check us out at www.fairlight.com

FairLight have been number #1 on : C64, AMIGA, PC, SNES!

Tell me one group that been active on all formats and beeing able to become THE NR:1 I'm sure there's probably NO group that can compete with that whatsoever! FairLight simply rocks!

My opinion: FairLight is the best group ever on the piracy scene!

What is the meaning of life?
Sex, sex and once again Sex.
