Everybody talks about them, everybody misses them, everybody cries for them and says they are gone forever. Yes, you have guessed it right, we are all talking about the Golden Days of the Amiga Scene. At least we try to talk about them. In my opinion noone has ever thought about WHAT are the Golden Days? How do we define them? What time do they come from? Where did they start and where do they end? Have you ever tried to answer at least one of these questions? When I look at the nowadays Scene. I wonder if anyone ever did. How comes we all talk about anything we cannot specify?

One awful April evening (you know how April days might look like) I sat myself down and tried to thing about the Golden Days. It took several hours to sort my thoughts out... But where should I start now. Once I received a letter from one of my contacts (it was Lousy/Massive to be concrete) who is not on the Scene for a long time. He tells me that he sees the Golden Days now for two reasons. For one, he didn't experience the former so called Golden Days (we the older Sceners call the beginning of 90's like this) and for two, he likes the current Scene as he finds as much fun and friendship as he wants. So? Is he wrong? He ISN'T! He simply finds the nowadays situation good, therefore he likes it and calls it Golden for his own point of view. Imagine yourself entering the Scene these days. What would you say in let`s say 2000? You would say: Hey, the 1997 was the Golden Year of the Amiga Scene for me...




Whereto do I lead? I state that so called Golden Days is a specific and INDIVIDUAL term. Everyone uses to call the Golden Days those days, which were the forming ones, the new and undiscovered ones... I see the Golden Days in lets say 1992 or 1993 where I entered the Scene and I found it underground, mysterious, great.. Now I know the mysteries, now I know so many things I use to discover step by step...

Should I say there are NO Golden Days at all? No, of course not. For each and every one of us (the Sceners), there are Golden Days but they're individual and different for everyone. Therefore I mean that the nowadays situation IS WRONG when telling us all the the Golden Days ARE GONE. For someone they really are. On the other hand, for someone the Golden Days are the nowadays one and for some one the Golden Days will EVEN come yet. What do you think?
