Interview with Wayne Mendoza
Publication: Unknown - 1995

Chris & Ghandy: Hi Wayne Mendoza... feel welcome in our hall of fame! Do you maybe drink, eat or smoke something? Don`t know if we still have any grass on store, but if you wish I can have a look...

Wayne Mendoza: ;-)

Chris & Ghandy: Who`s the man behind the handle Wayne Mendoza? What`s your real name, age, hobbies, studies, job etc.?

Wayne Mendoza: My real name is Martin and I decided to get a peek of the world about 24 years ago (actually I really didn`t like to). My hobbies are playing music (keys), rescueing people and sports like Windsurfing. Currently I am studying CS at the University of Dortmund and I am also employed there.

Chris & Ghandy: About your scene career - how did it all began? Who did you teach in coding? Which groups were you part of and what did you release? (I`m sure there are also a lot of newcomers who never heard of you)

Wayne Mendoza: It began in 1990 (if I remember correctly). I bought my Amiga and soon bought myself books about assembler and graphics programming, so the "teachers" were several books. I started in a group called "Aspect" (which was one of the "coolest" groups I ever was in btw.) and then became a member of TRSI a little bit later. There I released my first Demo "Wicked Sensation" (1992), before that I did a few shorter productions (mainly Intros). After WS I did some associate coding in "Misery Dentro II" and also some minor Intros and stuff. I mainly invested my time in coding new routines that were never released because my studies and other things blocked me from that. The last group I was in is (was called "Masque" which is a subsection of TRSI. Since most of the members are inactive now, there won`t be many releases in the future .

Chris & Ghandy: And now? Are you still in Masque? Heard the atmosphere in TRSI is quite special! hehe.. are you still in touch with the old groupmates like Knackosoft, J. Walker, Mcloud, Halligalli, Irata, CoolCat, Lincoln, Virgill, Uyanik, The Twins, Mario, Ecs, Vampire, Dr.Dre, DoubleTrouble and all I forgot!??!?!?

Wayne Mendoza: Well, I know the most of the guys, I also keep contact with some of them but most of us went our own ways (but still we meet sometimes), the old "gang" around Flynn uses to hang out together quite often I heard.

Chris & Ghandy: Is the group Masque active in any way?

Wayne Mendoza: Not as far as I know The last things that came out were from our PC division if I remember correctly.

Chris & Ghandy: And now? Heard you are only doing some tools for the internet on PC... no democoding anymore? Why? Are you still informed what`s going on in the scene anymore or did you totally loose your interest?

Wayne Mendoza: Internet tools ? Nope, I don`t think so. The last thing I did (and yes, it was on PC) was designing a software-based MPEG-Movie-Player for realtime playback of CIF movies. I don`t own an Amiga anymore because the situation around the old girl hasn`t improved somehow and all the bullshitting about this Power-PC stuff and all the other hyping was really starting to get on my nerves, if they want to design a computer that survives on the market they HAVE to use all the standard components like PCI-Motherboards, Gfxcards etc... The only thing that has to be done is to port AmigaOS on the Intel- Architecture, Intel rules the market and they WILL gain more percentage of it every day (a non-deniable fact).

Chris & Ghandy: As you are (or were) a german scener, I`m sure you also have a "special" experience with german parties? (as most of them were shit the past 4/5 years) At which parties have you been? [in- and outside of Germoney]

Wayne Mendoza: Hmm..(head scratching)..I used to be at the Belgium Easter Conference (TRSI), I guess it was in 1991 or something. I also visited The Party III in Denmark and the CeBit Party in 1993. The experience on the Easter Conference was the best, we really had lotsa fun, 2nd best came TP3 in Denmark, the CeBit-Party was all right, but a little too small.

Chris & Ghandy: Since a few months, everybody is talking about Internet, that is a new media, that is the future, and so on... how do you feel with it? How do you (or your group) use this media?

Wayne Mendoza: I use it sometimes for (re)search purposes and of course for EMail, but that`s all. I think that the current Internet-Hype is really a burden for all the serious users. Everyting and everybody has its own homepage with nothing but bullshit on it. Advertising hits your eye on every purpose and millions of people transferring huge amounts of data through the net (because of hundreds of kilobytes of image data on that web-pages) are wasting bandwidth.

Chris & Ghandy: Tell me the url your homepage if there`s one ...

Wayne Mendoza: Not yet...

Chris & Ghandy: As you are also getting older with the years, what are your plans? Will you settle down, become a family man, probably father etc.?

Wayne Mendoza: Hmm..first I have to finish my studies which will (hopefully) be in 1999. After that I gotta do some research to earn myself a Ph.D. and then we`ll see. Too early to talk about kids yet

Chris & Ghandy: Do you maybe want to greet some old friends? If yes, you`ll have all space you need!

Wayne Mendoza: Greetings to: Peachy, Dreamer, Fuzzel, Fade1, MaZ!, Flynn, Irata, Madison, Bobby Q., Guybrush, Knacko, Eloy, Phil D., Wildcard and a load of others I forgot.

Chris & Ghandy: Still have enough supergrass to smoke?

Wayne Mendoza:

Chris & Ghandy: Thanks and bye!
