Interview with Petro Tyschtschenko - Manager of Commodore Germany
Publication: Jurassic Pack#7 - 1999

1999: Petro and the Faith posse

Ghandy & Chavez: Hello and welcome to an interview for the Amiga diskmag "Jurassic Pack". Hey, greetings to you... how did you get here?

Petro: Hello and happy easter to you. With my car because I had to transport all the presents for the AMIGA scene.

Ghandy & Chavez: Don`t they miss you at home?

Petro: Mhhh..yes, but I`m often on tour for my beloved AMIGA. Thank God, all members of my family have great understanding when it comes to this.

Ghandy & Chavez: At the moment a lot is happening.. Phase5, Haage & Partner, Escena etc. what do you think in which direction we will go in the future? Who will dominate the market? (also concerning Kosh? etc.)

Petro: All AMIGA fans are welcome. They will all make their way but I think there should only be one direction where we all should go. Only united we are strong, separation only causes damages at the moment.

Ghandy & Chavez: How come that you personally engage yourself so much? Is that more a personal or business oriented engagement?

Petro: That engagement is of a pure personal nature. I like to fight for an idea, that`s the only way to succeed against my american friends. I have nothing to loose.

Ghandy & Chavez: At the moment I see the danger of separation of the in any case already small Amiga family. Engagement that goes in the right direction can`t be wrong. But in Poland the Amiga plays a more important role, especially when it comes to the demoscene.

Petro: Segregation? No. Kosh? Just finished a great meeting with J.H. Haage and Dietrich. We agreed that Phase5 will do the new G3 board and Haage & Partner on the other side will develop the 68000 emulator... so you see there`s harmony !!!!

Ghandy & Chavez: Haage & Partner will develop the OS 3.5 or are actually doing that. This is all very good but it`s a long time ago since anything happened. Isn`t it already a bit late? Many Amiga fans have already "jumped" to other platforms because their Amiga was out of time. (like for example to PC`s)

Petro: This is quite correct and deplorable but the hard core will be preserved for the existing platform. And the people that have left for PC`s will come back with flying colours when we`ve started to make a front against the monopoly! Just wait and see.

Ghandy & Chavez: We will see.. we Amiga fans are quite used to waiting for something. Mhhh.. What will your strategy look like? What will the marketing look like, how do you want to get parts of the market back?

Petro: I too am experienced with waiting for something. At least Gateweay did nearly to nothing during the past two years. They needed the time to understand the Amiga. Now they finally understood it. Money will be a strategy that we will need to get back the market. And Gateway will investigate that money. Secondly we need the management. And I think Jim Collas is the right person to bring back the Amiga where he should belong since a long time, back to the top. Gateway are masters in marketing affairs.

Ghandy & Chavez: And lately Gateway has reacted and exchanged some leading persons, also to get the company`s transparency better. I`ve asked myself which interest a PC`s producing company has to support a competing computer platform.

Petro: Our operating system is the key.. Gateway understood that and pulls away.

the ultimate business simulation??

Ghandy & Chavez: In what extend btw. how long will you continue to support the socalled "Classic Amigas"?

Petro: As long as I have something to say, always... and that will hopefully last for a long time.

Ghandy & Chavez: What do you think about organising in Autumn an "Amiga only" exibition? (instead of the Computer`99 in Cologne)

Petro: Nothing. We simply need the other people to show them how good and unbeatable we are with a technology that didn`t have a novelty since 1991. I`ve already engaged myself for Cologne and I promise you that will be a superlative exibition.

Ghandy & Chavez: Last question: What are your wishes for the future? (private/professional/Amiga)

Petro: Amiga: Our Amiga should finally enter the place as he ought to be. That`s my superior target. Private: Health, so I can continue for a long time to fight for my beloved Amiga. And in professional sense a product, a new one, as at that time in 1985 something revolutionary with a thousand millions sales... and for the satisfaction of all users.

Ghandy & Chavez: Thanks a lot for this conversation and thanks for the sponsoring of Amiga Int. for our party last year (Cologne Conference `98)....
