Interview (MediasRes) of: Abrasax

Handle:
Abrasax

How did you come up with your alias ?
Found it when looking through the necronomicon together with a very good friend in my Accession organising days (contact ddt for info about accession (hint)).

City / Country:

Elst, Randwijk/ Netherlands

Born year:
1972

What was your first computer, and when did you get it?

Vic20 cant remember when we got it, but was a very cool machine. Galactica and pacman (yes the one and only) are the games i remember from those days. After that C64 (still sort of) and then in 1985 an Amiga.

How did you get into the scene and what groups have you been a member of ?
got into the scene on the c64 basicly (did some shit on vic20 but was nothing special) did some cracks and some coding.
On the amiga i got really involved through some old c64 scene contacts and started coding/ cracking after playing with the machine for a couple of weeks. On the amiga I've been in loads of groups (something not to be proud of i think) like: Quartex, The Web inc., Infernal Duo, QuickSilver, BS1, Accession, Skid Row, original Razor 1911 (very cool group with nice people), The Band, Angels, Defjam, HQC (hard to explain), TRSI and some other groups i might have forgotten or dont want to mention

What was the proudest moment in your career ?
My first crack 3 days after i got bored playing games, and also getting a blitter to work together with the people from the jungle command

For what specific reason(s) do you think that you are remembered ?
Really have no clue.

What would you like to be remembered for ?

The person I am.

What made you stop the scene activity ? (and do you remember when?)
I'm still active in the scene, but have considered stopping loads of times becoz of the things changed in it...

Thinking back on the good old days, is there anything you regret?
selling my original c64, seeing good people disapear from the scene, the changes in attitude towards each other and lots more can be mentioned here. And basicly I think that all old people in the scene will some how have very similar answers on this question.

What was your favorite:
GAME(S)
galactica (vic20), deceptor (c64), great giana sisters (amiga), defender of the crown (amiga), the three stooges (amiga), king of chicago (amiga), cmon (amiga), pacman (vic20) bruce lee (c64) and some more golden oldies.

DEMO(S)

tech tech (amiga), abc intro for driller (c64), antiaction megademos (Stefan rulez!)

PROGRAMMER(S) (OR PROGRAMMING TEAM(S))
Mike Pot (old Magnificent force cracker, wrote the dragons lair copy program) Mark Langerak (Exterminator/ Jungle Command now works at Microprose (the dutch tulip ) other Jungle Command people (yup blitter is very difficult )

CRACKER(S) (OR CRACKING GROUP(S))
loads of people and groups would qualify for this position but people really earning my respect in this field are:
Rob, Conqueror of C&Z, Sabbath, The Surge, Onyx, MZP, SkyWalker, T.I.C., PHS, Il Scuro, HQC and more people who have earned their stripes through the years.

COMPOSER(S)
Charles Deenen, Jeroen Tel, Rob Hubbard, David Whitaker, Ron Klaren, Dezecrator

BEST COMPOSED TRACK(S)
Dutch Breeze intro, Hybris soundtrack, Battle squadron music

EVENT(S) (E.G. COPYPARTY) MEMORY(S)

Copy party in Essen where all the people were e.g. Unit A, BS1, HeadBanger, Phil trust, HQC, Hotline, Movers, Bitstoppers etc. etc.

Favorite drink ?
Milk or hmmmm beer ??

What are you doing nowadays ?
Trying to get certain things going again for Quartex, and trying to finish my school so i can finally earn some money instead of making depts.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the public (read: admires)?
I just would like to greet all the old friends, around there somewhere, and to all new friends i've made through my time in the scene. Lets just hope that we all will be able to reach our own goals in live.

What is the meaning of life?
To live it.
