[ raww.org ] Vortex Tracker II v1.0 b14 released

[ raww.org ]
Vortex Tracker II v1.0 b14 released
For all you so-called "musicians" there's a new version of Sergey Bulba's excellent Vortex Tracker II out. Aside from some changes related to "Turbo-AY" mode, v1.0 b14 is mostly a small bugfix, so you'll want to get it and keep up-to-date.

[ raww.org ] Sundown 2006 Finished

[ raww.org ]
Sundown 2006 Finished
So, I'm back from Sundown. I now need a lot of sleep, but alas I'm back at work. Only 5 days to the weekend. The party was good - some great productions which you can grab over at Pouet.net. Of note there were 3 ZX releases which is a high number for a multi-format party. "<3 krunk" was the latest release by Ate Bit. I don't recall where this came in the results, tho' I do know that the winner was "Koopaville" by Gasman and Equinox. It deserved to win if only for the fantastic raster effect. It has to be seen, but make sure you use a 128k/+2 as it was timed specifically for my ZX.
A "new group" hit the scene also - Ate Arse consisted of me & evilpaul with Gasman on the AY. The first release is "<3 smash", which is... well you probably had to be at the party to "get" it. I also released an "unfinished" screen$ into the oldschool graphics compo, and came a staggering last place. Maybe I'll finish it some day. Maybe.
So that's it. It's all good. More news when I wake up.

Edit - first few photos have popped up over on ukDemoScene.org.

[ Defacto2 - The Scene News with Site News ] Steal This Film Part 1

[ Defacto2 - The Scene News with Site News ]
Steal This Film Part 1
A new video documentary on the rise of the social and political impact of illegal file sharing is now floating around the various Torrent sites near you. But unlike most films found there, this one is legal to redistribute and uses the P2P Torrent network to their advantage.

Titled Steal This Film and running for just over 32 minutes. This wide screen DVD quality documentary is the first part of a greater series that intends to focus on piracy in general.

Part one covers the raid on the Swedish based web site, The Pirate Bay. The US governments involvement in the raid and the eventually political backlash that arose including the formation of a new Swedish political party, The Pirate Party.

Steal This Film

While I personally found at times the film dragged on for a little bit. And there were problems some with the various audio levels and synching. I did find it a worth while download and an interesting watch.

Though I do find it ironic that the more underground the pirate scene been forced into, the more mainstream the notion of digital piracy has become.

ZX Spectrum Picture Gallery

[ Oliver's personal blog - Sinclair ]
Would you believe that following pictures were made on old trusted ZX Spectrum? I still remember when I have started with my Speccy, the graphics wasn't that great, only later on, after year 1992 we started to see better, much improved graphics. Don't forget, there were some limitations, you can't really compare it to today's standards. Still, with little effor from the graphics designer side it was possible to produce results as shown here. World of Spectrum.org

[ Oliver's personal blog - Sinclair ]
The WoS is the world's biggest and most popular archive of Spectrum related material. It plays host to a huge archive of software including utilities, games, tools, type-ins, TR-DOS games, et al. The archive also includes documentation, instructions for games, magazine scans, tape inlays and other assorted stuff.

I do recommend to everybody visit WoS at: World of Spectrum.org. So what are you waiting for? Go there and experience something you never experienced before, birth of the most famous home computer.

Calling All The Old Schoolers

[ Defacto2 - The Scene News with Site News ]
Calling All The Old Schoolers
BitFellas logoThe guys at Bitfellas are doing a recruitment drive at the moment, old style with a zipped up ascii invitation.

Who are Bitfellas? Well it's a scene community web site made up of many people from various scenes. Infact a couple of the administrators go all the way back to the early Commodore 64 cracking scene way back in 1982. Now that is old school!

BF is supposed to become a huge scene community offering extended and unique content next to the communication opportunities. Our intention is to offer something for the entire scene of all possible platforms, may it be oldschool or newschool.
Our intention is to bring people together, to discuss topics, to develop new ideas in order to make the scene a much better place. The content will contain various scene related material such as exclusively and reprinted articles from various scene magazines, party reports, interview section, tutorials, calendar service with all possible scene related dates you can't afford to miss.
You see, this is far more than just another forum.

So if you are an old schooler lost in the myriad that is the world wide web. Looking for a place to catchup or to talk about the old days. Or even if your not so old school but are just interested in taking part in new and exciting scene based community (not talking about the current warez scene here) then join up.

I am personally a big fan of BitFellas and enjoy the fact it avoids a lot of the pointless bitching you find on other sites. It also has forums for nearly every platform in existance!

Don't worry if you visit the page and are greeted by a login screen, registration is a painless process and you receive automatic access.

[ Amiga Demo Podcast ] Demo #013 : Starstruck (The Black Lotus)

[ Amiga Demo Podcast ]
Demo #013 : Starstruck (The Black Lotus)
Posted by: terry@amigademopodcast.com (Terry Wilson)

Starstruck Demo: Starstruck [H.264] (37.25 MB) [DivX] (38.35 MB)
Group: The Black Lotus
Released: August, 2006

I know it's not exactly old skool, but I just had to include this demo as soon as possible and some people had also requested a version other than MPEG-2 that is available, with bad audio.

This demo has only been out a short while but has a little history behind it. The previous demo party that The Black Lotus (TBL) attended they didn't exactly do well, and they were placed 3rd. Apparently, someone threw down the gauntlet for them to create a demo that could kick the ass out of the demos that would be on show at the next party (Assembly '06).

To cut a long story short, TBL came up with this little beauty and won first place, and absolutely slaughtered the other 14 demos (which were 13 PC and 1 Mac OS X) in terms of votes.

The music for this demo was composed by none other than Olof Gustafsson (of the legendary "Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions" fame and a once member of "The Silents", if I'm not mistaken.

The demo was made to run on an Amiga with a 68060, but I don't have that much power. They had to make their demo run on WinUAE because their A1260 (68060 CPU board) broke on the flight over to the party.

Anyway, enjoy this demo. As I said, this will actually run on the WinUAE emulator. It runs perfectly acceptably on 1.6GHz machine, so you can watch this one for yourself. Just need to get yourself Kickstart 3.1 ROMs and a Workbench 3.1 installation and you're good to go.

Demo Download: Starstruck (Zip File)

[ Amiga Demo Podcast ] Demo #012 : Jesus on E

Demo #012 : Jesus on E's (LSD)
Posted by: terry@amigademopodcast.com (Terry Wilson)

Jesus on Es Demo: Jesus on Es [H.264] (162.68 MB) [DivX] (157.55 MB)
Group: LSD
Released: October, 1992

It's been a long time coming, but at last here it is.

Get out your white gloves, whistles and dummies and let the rave commence.

Seeing that this demo came out in 1992 makes me feel really old now

The length of this demo is absolutely huge, dare say my bandwidth limit is going to get tested with this one. Whilst the demo doesn't exactly do a hell of a lot technically, it certainly set a standard in its day. Kicking in at something around the 30 minute mark spread over two disks and REQUIRING an extra disk drive. Fortunately I AGA and ECS fixed it, so that I could run it from my hard disk (not having an extra floppy drive).

The disk images are the original unmodified ones, and the fixers/HD installer is included too to save the searching.

I'm going to try and get back in the habit of doing the demos on a weekly/bi-weekly basis now as it has really been hard going try to get myself back into.

Disk Images (.adz format): [Disk 1] [Disk 2] [HD Installer and AGA/ECS Fixers]. To convert to an ADF, use either WinZip or gzip.
