[ raww.org ]
AY-Emulator v2.9 Beta 1 Released
A few months after the non-beta v2.8 of AY-Emulator comes v2.9 beta 1 of this Windows-based AY/YM chip emulator. Oh, you've already heard of it? Well I'll skip the introductions and move straight on to the changes since the last release back in February...

[ raww.org ] SjASMPlus v1.07 RC1(bf) Released

[ raww.org ]
SjASMPlus v1.07 RC1(bf) Released
As was hinted at already, a new version of SjASMPlus was released recently. v1.07 RC1 hit Sourceforge while I was on holiday so I managed to miss it. But I also notice that a bugfix release has just come out (RC1bf), so I can use this post to mention that also. Result!
SjASMPlus is a Z80 cross-assembler that's fast gaining popularity and you can see why when checking the Compiler Comparison (tho' this could be biased, the only feature that's missing is the code optimiser, which no-one really wants... do they?). Read on for details of the changes since v1.06.

[ raww.org ] PHACON

[ raww.org ]
PHACON '06
PHACON 2006 is held from 3. to 5. of November, 2006 in the cultural assembly room of Praha - Smichov Railway Station (pretty interesting place, eh?!). It's the very same place like Bytefest'06 was. There is an excellent access (train/tube/tramway/car) for all Speccy freax from Prague and/or from countryside or even abroad! If you want to see DivIDE with MDOS3, Demfir or FatWare in action, you can't miss it! I think there could be also presentations of K-Mouse, TurboSound, new software, etc. More info (in Czech language only) at ZX Magazin site.

[ raww.org ] ZX Developer Network

[ raww.org ]
ZX Developer Network
News has come in of a new site for ZX Developers. ZXDN (I'm assuming it's Dev'Net) is a place for housing technical information about developing software for the ZX. It currently includes information about using Pro Tracker, how to code "stuff", and ooh other things. To be honest it's a bit tricky for me as it's all in Russian.
The idea is not unlike a plan I have to create a "Democode network". I have a Wiki set up, but there's very little on it at the moment and the design isn't complete - partly as I've been busy working on "other things". If you ask nicely I may even give you the link. Maybe.

[ raww.org ] ZX Soft Collection and other tools

[ raww.org ]
ZX Soft Collection and other tools
Spotted recently (through the Belarusian news site) that the ZX-Soft collection is back in business. You can go there and grab new versions of Quick Commander, AC-Edit, ZX-RAR, ... basically a whole bunch of stuff mostly written by Alone Coder. There's also a new version of Pro Tracker, but it's out of date. Why? Because over on Virtual TRDOS you can get v3.7. Very handy.
There's also news there that SjASMPlus, a z80 Cross-Assembler, is now hosted by SourceForge. In fact it has been for a month, but it's worth mentioning now as it looks like a new version (1.07) is about to be released. It's got some nice new features, but can it tempt me away from Tasm? Hmm, who knows.

[ raww.org ] Blibb Blobb goes ZX

[ raww.org ]
Blibb Blobb goes ZX
In case you don't know of it, Blibb Blobb is a chiptune "podcast" (it's an mp3 download and every knows it, people insisting on calling them podcasts frankly gets on my tits). Anyway, Blibb Blobb 018 is dedicated to the ZX Spectrum, making a pleasant change from the recent run of Amiga episodes. The music was selected and recorded by raww.orgy winner C-Jeff and features several scene luminaries. Go see. Or hear.

[ raww.org ]
AYLand Playlist Updated
There's been another update to the playlist of streaming AY-music station AYLand. As well as the music from Space Crusade (a rather quality game), there's a few demoscene updates. More music has been added from Jaan, Agent-X and some tunes from Demobit'95. There's also the addition of some beeper-tunes.

[ raww.org ] TommyGun Is Dead. Long Live TommyGun

[ raww.org ]
TommyGun Is Dead. Long Live TommyGun
It's an odd thing with software development. It doesn't matter how adamant you are that "generic software X" is complete, finished, never to be touched again... it'll always haunt you, coaxing you into making changes. Little bugfixes. Tweaks. Complete rewrites of the basic engine, resulting in months of additional work.
In case you hadn't guessed from the subject and my warblings, the "dead" project TommyGun, a Windows IDE for 8-bit development, has been updated. This latest version (v0.9.8) is pretty much a bugfix. This is in addition to changes in the (not-quite-mentioned) previous version such as the Screen$ parser. All very handy.

[ raww.org ]
Open Source ZX Searching for Sources
We've had a request from bugsy over at Open Source ZX - he's looking for any ZX source code. The aim of the site, if you've not been there before, is to provide the source for various ZX productions, from utilities to demos and games. There's already a large number of programs available on the site, but more are always needed. I'm going to go through some of my source at some point and "tidy it up" for general release.
You can send your work direct to bugsyyandexru.
