#29 - Gimmicks and Satire in Demos with jco

[ ZINE: The Radio Show ] #29 - Gimmicks and Satire in Demos with jco

Whether it is to divert expectations, provoke, bend the rules or simply have a good time and be creative: humour, satire and gimmicks are a long-standing tradition in the demoscene.

But is there more to it than just blatant knee-slappers and cheap audience-pleasing? Does humour free oneself from too many expectations and limitations? Or is it limiting in its own ways?
With the topic so close to his own heart, okkie chats with jco, who has been leaving audiences somewhere between laughing and confused about story-driven productions with characters such as Kevin and Evilbot, all while also developing impressive tool chains and technologically apt productions that don't have to hide behind the absurdity... or do they?

Read issue 19 of Jurassic Pack online

Diskmags on the Amiga have unfortunately become a rare thing. Around 11 months after the publication of the nineteenth issue of Jurassic Pack, the online edition is finally out today.

Unfortunately, with Wordpress it is impossible to imitate the true reading experience. We therefore strongly recommend viewing the diskmag offline. For those who still can't resist, here is the link. The articles are in the right order. After the last article of Jurassic Pack 19 then JP#18 starts and then issue 17 and last, but not least JP#16.

It was a hell of work to put all articles online. We hope you enjoy reading anyway.

Scene World Podcast Episode #156 - MayTree

Our new episode is a very special Xmas present! Joerg and Remute had the pleasure to interview the world-famous Acapella band MayTree! Beginning in 2021, the group began releasing a series of YouTube videos in which it covers sound effects used in computer and mobile phone systems. The first video of these series, released in January 2021, covered Windows sound effects. Others followed, including sound effects for iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones, as well as the Angry Birds and other video games. On Oct 1,2021 at the height of the explosion of popularity of the South Korean show, Squid Game, which became Netflix's most popular ever series, Maytree released covers of some of the main themes from the show. As of Dec 12, 2021, the video has amassed over 240 million views on YouTube. Enjoy! The Interview starts at minute 6:13
