Future Scene
by Chester of Brainstorm

Rumours are going round, about COMMODORE. They will stop producing AMIGA 500. Instead producing them, COMMODORE construct a new VideoConsole (it's an AMIGA without DiskDrive and Keyboard, but with CD-Rom and new fat Agnus). Only the professional AMIGAS (A2000, A2500, A3000) will survive. Companies, like Titus and Psygnosis, stop releasing new games for the AMIGA. If that'll come to be true, what will happened to the scene - no cracks? - no demos? - no parties? - no scene? In my opinion the scene won't stop from one day to the other. If the AmigaConsole and the normal AMIGA are not compatible, most of the companies will change to the console, because you can't copy on this machine. The companies will have a bigger provit. There won't be any work for the crackers and so they have to leave the scene. That would be the reason why hunderets of lamers change the computer, because they don't get any longer the cheap new, cracked stuff. Perhaps other computers will reach the top, for example the ARCHIMEDES. The DemoCrews will stop to produce something new, because there aren't people, who look at it. It has no sense. At all, perhaps the scene would exist still a year, and then ... But what can WE do against such a horrible end of the scene? Buying more games and other originals? Or is it too late for it?

Finally I called COMMODORE Aesch in Switzerland. At first Mr. Weber said nothing, but a view seconds later:

CO : "... NO, of course we won't stop producing A500. What a stupid rumour!!"
ZINE: "And what's about the new VideoConsole?"
CO : "We want to go in this buissnes, too. Especially in Japan and the USA, there are thousands of freaks, who want to buy a powerful Console..."

It seemed that the guy on the phone was very bussy, so he couldn't (wasn't allowed to?) give me more informations. Let's wait and see what happened in the future...
