Survey of Auld
Job: coder

Survey submitted: Wed 13 Feb 2008

Handle, ex-handle(s):
auld, other handles I used: taj, sek, copabars

Group, ex-group(s):
(ex) Titan

What was your first group, your role in that group and what did that group produce?:
Titan. Dont think I had a role but i was coding.

What motivates you to spend time on the scene?:
The voices in my head tell me to do it.

What is your favorite color?:
One that nobody complains about.

On what platform(s) did you begin your computing journey, and when was this?:
Spectrum back in wel.. whatever year they were released .. 82?

What platform(s) do you use now?:
PC and the one at the train station.

What is/are your favorite piece(s) of music(s) - from a demo production or a scener (released outside of a demo)?:
Almost anything by Little Bitchard.

What is/are your favorite picture(s) - from a demo production or a scener (released outside of a demo)?:
Almost anything by Alien^pdx and H2o

What is your favorite programming language, effect, tool, coder, platform, book?:
C, refraction, Crinkler, Iq of RGBA, PC, Harry Potter and The Deadly Demoscene.

Discuss: your first steps towards becoming a coder, who helped you, what problems did you run into, your first effect, the future of demo coding:

I started coding in my bedroom on my own back in 1982. I didnt discover the demoscene until 2006 so - well the rest makes no sense.

Which project that you worked on was the most exciting and interesting for you? And why?:
Back in the 90's I was working at a company where we did shaders, based on those old Pixelplanes machines but cut down to a chip. Nobody had heard fo shaders so we were pioneering - it was fantastic. We failed commerically but it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

What is your favorite demo, intro, megademo, retrogame, slideshow, musicdisk, diskmag, wilddemo?:
Demo: 1995 or anything by Plastic. Intro: 195/>??-?? by rgba whatever the hell the name is. No idea for the rest.

Discuss: minimalistic demos, cracktros, fucktros, joke demos, lamers, compo winners at big parties, demotools, diskmags, chiptunes, glenz vectors, programming languages, photoshop, textmode:
Minimalism is huge work to get right. Most people have no clue. Cracktros seem to attract less skilled individuals these days. Fucktros - more of them would be better. Joke demos suck. Lamers - whats a lamer , someone who isn't good yet? Parties are a rule apart, winning in them doesnt mean you were the best, but it probably means you were good. Demotools: the devil uses them. Hand coding rules. Diskmags: more code please but yeah I know sceners don't share. Chiptunes - er, too weird for me. Glenz vectors too oldskool for me. Programming languages too hard for me. Photoshop too expensive for me. Textmode too alphabety spaghetti for me.

What percentage of modern demos are 3d flybys?:
Not so many really and anyway, great 3d - thats a skill.

What percentage of older demos are the same effects recycled?:

Most.

What platform(s) needs more demos?:
Set top boxes

Which parties do you intend to go to, and which parties would you like to go to? Please describe your personal experiences with your most favourite or impressive party you have ever been at.:
None. Antisocial git, like cocoa and bed by ten.

How did the scene alter since you are taking an active part in it? Can you explain why?:
ah been around too short a time but one change is a bit of editing at Pouet which is a very very good thing.

What are your dreams/goals in life, did scene help you and have you achieved them yet?:
My dream is a swimming pool. I have a cheap plastic one. Nobody in the scene has yet offered to buy me a real noe. Please send donations to auld, care of Unfortunates mental asylum, Spivvy on the Wold.

Finally, do you have some special greetings? Feel free to add links to your graphics, screenshots of effects, modules or other pieces of your work.:
Greets to team rebels who are one of the nicest groups I know.
